The trees strain

The trees strain

Under the weight of being

The only sound

Is the black cat

Who sits on the wall at the corner

And points one paw lazily

In my direction

As if to say

That’s long distance love

Get used to it

The canal paths crunch

Like Christmas

Are the birds singing louder now

Or is it me

There is nobody else around

And I was the only one

Who saw the sun set tonight
